a little bit about how I play and experience computer and video games

Lots of you sighted folks may be wondering just how in the world a blind person can play a computer or video game.  How do we visualize the environment and know where we are, and how do we know what’s going on.  Well I’ll tell you the answers to those questions, and it’s really very simple.

We listen very carefully to the sound effects in the game, and if there’s a lot of spoken dialogue, this is a tremendous advantage to us because it allows us to know even more of the story being told in the game.  The game Fable 2 for the xbox360 is an excellent example of this by the way, because it’s as though you’re in a living breatheing world, and every single character speaks.  I’ll need to gain some sight before I can play Fable 2, since like all other video games, it’s very visual, but I’m not wurried about that part, since I know it’s going to happen later this year, and get slowly better as the vision device is improved.  I’ll get to that in another post.

So as I said, I listen very carefully to the sounds and voices in the game, and can get a pritty good idea of some things in the game, but my real strong point is computer games.  There actually games out here for the blind that are completely based on audio environments.  Pritty much any kind of world you can think up in your head, no matter what the size, you can build a game out of it completely based on audio environments.  Even right down to the buildings in the towns and cities in your world.  You can even build several floors and even put elevators in the buildings, and a blind person could successfully navigate your world completely using his ears alone.

Audio games are a lot of fun, because depending on how well done the game is, if you use your immagination good enough, you’ll almost be able to smell the smells and feel the forest floor beneath your feet.

I have a very strong passion for building computer and video games, and it’s my field of experteese.  I’ve been playing games of all kinds ever since I was 4 years old, and have loved them ever since the first time I ever picked up a game controller.  This is why I decided to start Vlf games so that I could put my ideas for computer games in to reality, and although they’re going to be audio based games, I’ll still have products to appeal to the sighted folks, I don’t want to leave you out at all. In fact, I want to see you play audio games as well because I think you’d get a lot of fun out of them, and it would give you an idea of how a blind person plays games.

I certainly hope that you’ve enjoyed reading this information, and I hope it’s given you a new outlook on computer and video games in general.  As usual, your comments and suggestions are always welcomed and appreciated.  Have a wonderful day, and have fun gaming.
